Every month we pull some stats to use internally from the Trello Power-Up directory. Last year we decided to pull it all of together into a blog post showing some of the interesting numbers and most popular Power-Ups, new and old, from the last year. And now we're back doing it again!
Below you will see stats on new power-ups launched in 2022, the fastest growing power-ups new and old, free and paid, as well as some other stats we can pull from the data. We also maintain guides to every free power-up and all the reporting power-ups so do check those out if you are at all interested in that sort of thing 😻.

There are now 297 power-ups listed in the power-up directory up from 247 this time last year. We again saw a growth in the number of power-ups by about 20% over the year. Clearly growth isn't yet slowing and the total number of power-ups being added is actually accelerating, with a total of 61 new power-ups in 2022 vs 47 added in 2021. Of those 61 new power-ups 19 (about 1/3rd) of them are free or have free options. Keep reading to see our list of the fastest growing free power-ups to see what other teams are adding to their boards.
Of the newly launched Power-Ups in 2022 the 9 below all managed to get more than 5,000 board installs by the end of the year. If you are looking for interesting new Power-Ups from the last 12 months definitely take a look through these.
Looking now at all power-ups currently in the directory, not just new ones from the last 12 months. The Power-Ups listed below were the fastest growing 3rd party Power-Ups of 2022. We have separated out the Trello/Atlassian owned Power-Ups from the 3rd party Power-Ups as otherwise the Trello/Atlassian ones tend to dominate the listings.
Big congratulations to Amazing fields which was the fastest growing new power-up last year and is now the fastest growing of all 3rd party power-ups in 2022. This is likely down to Trello's decision to make Custom Fields part of the core product instead of a Power-Up in 2021.
Digging further down the list we can see a couple of interesting things. Two tools to allow syncing Trello to your calendar from Unito and Cronofy made the list. Secondly, although Trello have been improving their own reporting tools we still see some strong growth from 3rd party reporting options such as Corrello and Projects by Placker. Zapier is also worth a mention, they were our fastest growing 3rd party power-up last year and still managed 2nd place this year. Hats off to Amazing fields for their 1st place against such stiff competition!
Although you can't filter the power-up directory to only show the free power-ups, we now track that for you and update that list monthly. We've combined that work with the data here to pull a list of the fastest growing FREE power-ups. We've limited this to 3rd party power-ups here, you can see the fastest growing Trello/Atlassian owned power-ups below, all of which are also free.
These are the fastest growing Power-Ups owned by Trello/Atlassian. Two of our favourites are List Limits and Card Repeater so it is great to see them doing so well. Card aging is another great tool but if you're looking for something a little more powerful do check out our Time in List power-up.
Every Power-Up is listed in up to 2 categories within the Power-Up directory. In these charts you can see stats on the total number of Power-Ups in each category as well as the total number of board installs across all Power-Ups in each category.
Here we see how many Power-Ups are currently listed in each category. This shows where Power-Up developers are seeing the most opportunities to improve and extend Trello. Since last year IT Project Management and Board utilities have traded places for the #1 and #2 spots. That is interesting to see, with Board utilities being a category for nearly half of all power-ups, but beneath that everything has stayed pretty much the same.
Here we see how many new Power-Ups were launched in each of these categories in 2022. We have the same top 2 as last year but start to see some changes below that.
Whereas last year we saw Communication/Collaboration and Analytics and Reporting in a strong joint 3rd place with nearly as many new pups listed there as the #2 spot. This year we see Automation in a fairly weak 3rd place with only half the number of new power-ups as 2nd place, followed closely by Analytics and Reporting in 4th. Communication/Collaboration is relegated to 5th place with just 5 new power-ups listed this year.
I think Board utilities is usually power-ups 2nd category if there isn't another obvious 2nd choice. It also shouldn't be a surprise to see a lot listed in IT Project Management given the nature of Trello. However, seeing the changing fortunes below those top 2 is interesting and perhaps, while the number of power-ups listed is still growing and accelerating, developers are finding new areas to build in.
This shows the total number of new board installs for Power-Ups listed in each category over the last year. Board utilities and Communication/Collaboration are the biggest leaders with over 3M new board installs each. They both achieved close to double the number of new board installs they got over the previous year which is pretty amazing growth! Below the top two we naturally have IT & Project Management! but get more of a shake up below that.
Last year the #4 to #6 spots were
This year they are
Changes here could reflect different patterns in which power-ups people are installing or power-up developers changing the categories they list their power-ups in. Possibly, with all the work Trello has done on reporting over the last few years, we are seeing fewer Analytics & Reporting power-ups getting installed, hence the drop out of the top 6 for that category. Marketing & Social media is also a relatively new category so perhaps a lot of the installs here are down to power-up developers recategorising their existing power-ups into this new category.
That's it for our 2022 round up of the Power-Up directory over the last 12 months. We will be back next year with the latest developments. We also update our guide to every free power-up monthly and our reporting power-ups guide whenever we spot anything new or interesting.
